iPad and iPhone touchscreen imprecise? This can help!
If the iPad and iPhone touchscreen works imprecisely, the system is probably jammed. But there is a quick solution.

I actually wanted to throw my iPhone out the window: every tip went wrong somehow. The device is just six months old, the touchscreen is of course original and has never been repaired. So there's no reason that the iPhone touchscreen should be imprecise. Nevertheless, clicking on smaller elements – such as text links – was a real problem.
As it turned out, my iPad also had these problems. Whether it was related to an iOS update to iOS 17 (and the corresponding iPadOS): Possible. Sometimes errors become embedded in Apple devices that develop a certain dynamic of their own. There does not have to be an actual software problem behind it. Unfortunately, such an error persists even after restarting or updating.
On the (Intel) Mac there is the option for such cases Parameter RAM and the system management controller to reset. However, there is no corresponding function for the iPad and iPhone: Here you have to work with what you have. So reset both devices and reinstall them? No: it's much easier!
Forced restart solves many problems
iPhones and iPads also have a reset function, namely the one for forced restart: You can easily trigger this using a key combination that is very similar for both device classes. If you have a modern iPhone without a home button, do the following:
- Briefly press the volume button once for “Volume Up”.
- Then briefly press the “Volume Down” button.
- Now hold down the on-off button.
- The iPhone restarts.
- Release the power button when the Apple logo appears on the iPhone.
- The reset probably fixed the error.
iPad reset in case of errors or crashes
And it's not rocket science with the iPad either: the forced restart can be carried out with the following key combination:
- Briefly press the volume button closest to the power button (probably the volume up button) once.
- Briefly press the other volume button.
- Now hold down the power button while the iPad restarts.
- Release the power button when the Apple logo appears on the iPad.
- The iPad reset has now deleted erroneous parameters.
On older iPhones and iPads with a home button, you can simply hold down the home button and the power button until the Apple logo appears. By the way, this one helps Forced restart also helps restart an iPad or iPhone after a crash. It may not happen often with Apple devices, but when it does, it's good to keep the combination in mind.
iPhone touchscreen imprecise? The reset brings the solution
In my case, resetting the iPhone and iPad via a forced restart provided the solution: The touchscreen then worked regularly and reliably again. If you notice this or similar problems with your iPhone or iPad, it may make sense to try a forced restart first: it is quite possible that the device will then work better again.
